| Summary
DZIEJASŁOÚ’s 6th issue this year is notable for prose written by poets and vice versa. It opens with Miron and Miron, a story by renowned poet Uładzimir Niakłajeú, in which the State Prize Winner looks back on the remote 1950s. It was the time when Belarus was being restored after the terrible war, but in the deep forest you could still hear fighters for Belarusian independence shooting… Besides, in the Prose section you will find Christmas Stories by poet Leanid Drańko-Majsiuk, an elegy Put on Probation by the State Prize Winner poet Vasil Zujonak, the second part of the triptych Sketches of Country Life by young poet and prose writer Juhasia Kalada and a short story Brother and Milk Brother by Iryna Varabiej from Canada.
The Poetry section presents new poems by middle-aged and young authors. These are Letters from the Northern Bay by Ihar Babkoъ, Vin-nocent Poems by Valancina Aksak, Fire and Water by Uładzimir Ściapan, The Childhood Swing by Aksana Sprynčan and I Grasp Phйdre in Me by Alena Ihnaciuk.
This issue’s debutants are both Tacianas by name. A Miensk schoolgirl Taciana Małama tries her hand at prose (see And Do You Remember?), while a BSU student Taciana Puzienka comes up with her poems In My Dreams I Fly to the Stars with You.
The Translations section this time centres on Ukrainian literature. We hope you will be pleased to read Defeat Day by Vołodymir Javaryjski, the Chairman of the Ukrainian National Writers’ Union, The Chronicle by a Snail by Jury Vininčuk, A Little Play about a Treachery for an Actress by Olexsandr Irvaniec, as well as poems A Love Tune by Lina Kostenko, White on White by Maryja Jakuboъskaja.
The sections of Essays, Social Writings and Criticism have a lot to offer. You will find here correspondence between Uładzimir Karatkievič and the famous poet and public figure Łarysa Hienijuš (see We Deliberately Chose a Harder Way), poems and notes To Think Poems by Aleś Piśmiankoú, who has recently passed away (see We Are Given So Little). Apart from that, critic Michaś Mušynski in Sincere, Sincere Pavieł reveals previously unknown facts from the life of Paъluk Trus, thus commemorating him on his 100th anniversary. Meanwhile Juraś Barysievič in The Prose Needle discusses with young prose writer Alhierd Bacharevič the present-day literary condition in Belarus and the way young writers take it. Art critic Piotra Vasileъski in The pARTisan in the Sun City of Dreams features the artist Artur Klinaъ. In addition, Łada Alejnik in our traditional Intertext gives a critical appropriation of recently published Poems from A. by Aksana Sprynčan, The Sarmathian Album by Iryna Bahdanovič, The Water Lily by Ženia Martyniuk, Works (1921-30) by Jazep Losik, Intertemporaneity by Jurka Zubrycki, A Blue Fire by Janka Bryl and The Local Gravitation by Michaś Andrasiuk.
